Did anyone else think that we had moved on from self-isolation and working from home? I did. Imagine my horror when I got ‘pinged’ by the NHS Track and Trace app stipulating I had to self-isolate again. The good news is that I don’t have to homeschool. The bad news is that my face-to-face meetings have all gone back on to Zoom and, well, I have to self-isolate. So, as I find myself working from home and isolating I thought I would share some tips.
- Set up a plan for the day. Now that (hopefully) members of your household are out, either at work, school or just out, set a timetable and stick to it. Be as productive as you can without wasting time on traveling to work/meetings or school run.
- Set up your workspace (again). Try and work in a quiet and cutter free space with a comfortable chair. Make the space as nice and enjoyable as possible as you have a few days to be here.
- Take regular breaks. You may not be allowed for exercise but you still need to take regular breaks. If you have a garden walk round it a few times, if you don’t, do some laps of your house. If you cant do that then just get up from your seat and jump a round a bit. Every bit of movement helps to reset your body and mind.
- Keep in contact. Just because you aren’t physically allowed out doesn’t mean you should cut off the world. Have an extra chat with your work collogues or contacts, phone a friend or Facetime your family. Keep sane by staying in contact, it helps pass the time when there is nothing else to break up the working day.
- Open the window. Open the window and let some fresh air in. Fresh air will help you to concentrate plus you may sleep better tonight.
- Finally, drink plenty of water. Not only does it keep you hydrated and alert but also helps you to get up and move regularly – to the bathroom!
