This is the brand story of becoming The Marketing Associates. I hope it inspires other working parents.

How it began:

In March 2015 I found myself doing something that I never expected to do, and I certainly didn’t really want to do it. I became self-employed.

Having not returned to my London agency job I ended up starting The Marketing Assistant. At this point in time, I had a 1 year old who I wanted to spend as much time with whilst retaining some form of career and opportunity to earn.

Being self-employed gave me the chance to become my own boss dialling up and down the business in accordance with school holidays and, eventually further two daughters.

The brand name ‘The Marketing Assistant’ was originally chosen as a ‘says what it does on the tin’ type name. I have worked across various roles in various types of London Marketing and Advertising agencies for clients of national and international importance, therefore The Marketing Assistant offered clients a holistic view of marketing, meaning supporting a wide-range of sectors and marketing services from project management to strategic planning.

Despite my reasonings, the brand name received some negative feedback. Some commented on the ‘Assistant’ sounding too junior, some said the name was too generic, and others said they didn’t understand what I did.

How it went:

Over the seven years The Marketing Assistant, just like any business, has grown, changed and evolved. Having come back from maternity leave and lockdown, it was time to breathe new life into the business thus a logo upgrade was done last year, infrastructure investment was made, a business coach, further training and commitment to a core focus have all been undertaken.

Now is the time to listen to others, take advice and move the business forward for an aligned brand experience, smoother client delivery and business growth…

The Marketing Assistant becomes The Marketing Associates
