Gen Z Conference stats: I was fortunate to attend the insightful two-day Youth Marketing Strategy conference in London this month on behalf of Junk Kouture. Whilst there I learnt so much about Gen Z that I decided to keep some notes and share them with you!

The future generation are currently aged between 9 and 20 years old and will have a future disposable income of over $40 Million. Yet they are not only more brand savvy but more climate aware and looking for brands to do their part. Gen Z require brands to operate in a truly sustainable way not just ‘Green Washing’ the audience. The next generation are determined to do their bit and change the world, here are some of their statistics to digest:

1. 56% of 16-24s agree that the pandemic has made them engage more with social issues. Source: Channel 4
2. Gen Z want brands to be authentic yet focus on joy, happiness and creativity rather than negative issues.
3. 61% of Gen Z think brands are better positioned than governments to solve global problems. Source: Contiki
4. 85% of 16-24 year olds would like to see more diverse representation in advertising. Source: Youth Trends Report 2021
5. For engaging content Gen Z focus on things they and their ‘tribe’ enjoy then share it, rather than trying too hard to push out any content that doesn’t serve a purpose.
6. 83% of students think the use of the rainbow logo is an insult to the cause. Source: Dig-In

8. 67% of Gen Z cite diversity as the most important factor when choosing an employer. Source: Tap In
